I've been working in the sexual wellness industry for 25 years, and every so often something comes along that completely changes the conversations we're having.
I think GLP-1 medications are one of those moments.
Millions of people are now taking medications like Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Zepbound®, and Mounjaro®. Weight loss has dominated the conversation, along with blood sugar, nausea, muscle loss, hydration, and the remarkable health improvements these medications have made possible.
What I don't think we're talking about enough is intimacy.
Over the past year, I've heard countless stories from people whose sexual wellness has changed after starting a GLP-1.
Some describe feeling more confident than ever. Losing weight helped them feel better in their bodies, and their desire increased along with that confidence. Others say the "food noise" quieted, but so did their interest in sex. Some notice more dryness, changes in arousal, or orgasms that don't feel the same.
Researchers are still trying to understand why. Changes in body composition, nutrition, hydration, hormones, brain chemistry, confidence, and reward pathways may all play a role. It's an important moment in sexual wellness because we're only beginning to understand what these medications may mean for intimacy.
In my opinion, though, there's another part of this conversation that deserves a lot more attention. We've become very good at talking about weight loss. I think it's time we started talking about what it takes to keep our bodies optimized for pleasure while they're changing.
We've Been Thinking About Hydration Too Simply
We've become much more aware of hydration over the past few years, especially with the rise of GLP-1 medications. Drinking enough water is important, but we often reduce hydration to a single piece of advice: drink more water.
The reality is that skin is much more complex. It needs to attract hydration, hold onto it, maintain a healthy barrier, and recover from the everyday stress of friction, hormones, aging, and life. Water is part of that equation, but it's only part of the story.
We also don't talk enough about the fact that many people taking GLP-1s are eating less, and a surprising amount of our daily hydration comes from food. When intake changes, skin can change too.
We readily accept that rapid weight loss changes the appearance of our face. We notice less fullness, changes in elasticity, and skin that simply looks different. Intimate tissue is still skin, yet almost nobody is asking what those same changes might mean for comfort, confidence, responsiveness, and pleasure.
I've noticed over the years that we tend to blame every change in our sex lives on libido. Libido certainly plays a role, but pleasure is influenced by so much more than desire. Blood flow, healthy skin, comfort, and a nervous system that's relaxed enough to stay present all shape the experience.
I've come to believe skin deserves a much bigger role in this conversation.
I've always found it interesting that we take such a proactive approach to facial skincare. We moisturize before our skin feels dry, wear sunscreen before we burn, and invest in routines because we know prevention is almost always easier than trying to repair damage later.
I don't think intimate skin should be any different. If anything, it deserves even more attention.
It's thinner, more delicate, and experiences friction in ways the rest of our skin never does. It's responsible for pleasure, orgasm, reproduction, and everyday functions like urination, yet most of us don't think about caring for it until something starts feeling uncomfortable.
We've had the conversation backwards. We tend to think about lubrication only after there's a problem instead of supporting skin that's responsive, resilient, and optimized for pleasure long before discomfort shows up.
Why We Built the SUTIL Hydration System
This is exactly what we kept coming back to as Balm+ was being developed.
Mellta, our founder and herbalist, wasn't interested in creating another intimate moisturizer. As she researched the category, she found that many products relied heavily on silicone or oils. Those ingredients certainly have their place, but they tend to sit on the surface, creating temporary relief instead of supporting the skin itself.
We kept coming back to the same question: What does skin actually need to become more responsive?
As I dug into the formulation, one ingredient kept standing out.
Ectoin.
Everyone knows Hyaluronic Acid, and it deserves the attention it gets. But the ingredient I found myself talking about most was Ectoin.
Originally discovered in microorganisms living in some of the harshest environments on Earth, including salt lakes and deserts, Ectoin helps protect cells from dehydration and environmental stress. The more I learned about it, the more its role became obvious. If we wanted to create skin that was resilient, responsive, and optimized for pleasure, simply adding moisture wasn't enough. We also needed to help skin protect and retain that hydration.
That's why the SUTIL Hydration System doesn't rely on a single hero ingredient. Ectoin works alongside Hyaluronic Acid, Oat Beta-Glucan, and Perilla Seed Extract because each ingredient has a different job. Together, they attract hydration, support the skin barrier, calm delicate tissue, and improve the skin's ability to hold onto moisture over time.
Looking back, it's remarkable how closely that philosophy aligns with the conversations we're now having around GLP-1 medications. Balm+ wasn't developed specifically for people taking GLP-1s. It was developed around a much bigger idea.
When our bodies change, whether that's because of hormones, medication, illness, or aging, the skin involved in pleasure deserves support before discomfort becomes the reason we pay attention.
Pleasure Starts in the Brain
One of the most interesting areas of GLP-1 research has nothing to do with weight loss. Researchers are beginning to understand how these medications influence the brain's reward pathways, which may help explain why people report such different experiences with intimacy. Some experience a loss of desire, while others feel more connected to their bodies than ever before. The science is still emerging, and I suspect it will be years before we fully understand the full picture.
One thing has become clear. Pleasure doesn't begin with our genitals. It begins with our brain.
That's one of the reasons I've always loved talking about scent. Unlike our other senses, smell has a direct connection to the limbic system, the part of the brain involved in memory, emotion, motivation, and sexual response. A familiar scent can instantly transport us to a favorite vacation, remind us of someone we love, or simply signal that it's time to slow down and relax.
When our bodies are changing, I don't think it's enough to focus only on the physical side of intimacy. Our brains deserve some attention too.
This is where SUTIL Love Potions become so much more than hydrating massage oils. Whether you use them for massage, add them to a warm bath, or simply take a few quiet minutes for yourself, the essential oils help create the conditions for pleasure before we ever think about sex. Through touch, scent, and hydration, they invite us to slow down, reconnect with our bodies, and nourish the skin at the same time.
Pleasure isn't something we should expect our bodies to switch on instantly. Sometimes we have to create the conditions that allow it to happen.
The Hydration Hero Philosophy
As a sex educator, I've always encouraged people to explore their bodies before something feels wrong.
It's much easier to discover what feels good, build healthy habits, and find products you love when you're approaching intimacy with curiosity instead of trying to solve a problem.
I think we should approach intimate wellness much the same way we approach skincare.
We don't wait until the skin on our face is damaged before we start caring for it. We build routines because we know consistent care pays off over time, and I don't think intimate skin should be any different. Supporting skin before dryness, irritation, or discomfort isn't just about prevention. It's about helping skin stay responsive, resilient, and optimized for pleasure.
That's the philosophy behind the SUTIL Hydration Hero Bundle.
SUTIL Balm+ was formulated to support intimate skin through every stage of life. It helps attract, retain, and protect hydration so skin stays resilient, responsive, and comfortable, whether you're caring for it every day, navigating hormonal or medication-related changes, or preparing for intimacy.
SUTIL Rich is an exceptionally long-lasting lubricant with a rich, cushiony glide that helps reduce unnecessary friction. Carefully selected botanicals support blood flow and arousal during intimacy, then continue caring for intimate skin afterward. I often think of it as aftercare in a bottle.
Together, the Hydration Hero Bundle takes a more thoughtful approach to intimate wellness by supporting the skin, reducing unnecessary friction, and creating space for the brain and body to reconnect through touch, scent, and ritual.
The Conversation I Hope We Start Having
If you're taking a GLP-1 medication, you're probably already paying attention to hydration, protein, movement, and preserving muscle mass. Those conversations are important. I just don't think they should be the only ones we're having.
Don't forget about the skin that's responsible for both pleasure and function.
Don't wait until your skin starts asking for help before giving it the support it needs. A simple routine that keeps skin hydrated, resilient, and responsive may do far more than treating dryness after it appears. Supporting the skin barrier, reducing unnecessary friction, and creating moments that help your nervous system slow down all contribute to a body that's better prepared for pleasure.
Our bodies change throughout our lives. Our approach to intimacy should too.
I've spent the last 25 years watching the conversation around sexual wellness evolve, and I have a feeling we're standing at another turning point. As millions of people navigate life on GLP-1 medications, I hope sexual wellness becomes part of that conversation too. As we continue learning about their long-term effects, it's a conversation that's only going to become more important.
Maybe that's the conversation GLP-1 medications are inviting us to have.
